Orel Hershiser’s Vision Of A New Dodger Stadium
When I first saw this picture I thought I was looking at Kansas City or Texas, but it is an artist rendering of what Orel Hershiser would like Dodger Stadium to look like. Some of the major renovations include a double decker right field pavilion and demolition of the reserve deck down the left-field line. My first impression is I feel it takes away from the classic Dodger stadium look. I am open to some renovation, but I am not sure this is the answer. What do you guys think?

I like it! I grew up watching Koufax, Drysdale, Wills, etc. etc. I remember as a kid when it opened in 62 WOW! However, in order to protect it, and its great history, the concept looks fantastic. I am sure it would seat less than the present 56k, and that would be good. By removing the present reserve deck on third base, would make it unique, bringing in the old (Forbes Field) look, and making it a stadium with attendance around 47k. I LIKE IT!
I don’t like the idea of eliminating all those reserve level seats down the left field line, but other than that, I actually really like this design.
If I were going to do a re-design personally, I might add, I’d do little if any modification of the main bowl. But the outfield renovations look amazing.
I think it’s beautiful. My concern is the lack of the classic bullpen, but I like the elimination of the Reserve Deck, and the addition to the grass in outside Center Field. I think it would help the family friendly appeal to Dodgers Stadium. I would never want to change Dodgers Stadium, but if it had to be changed, I’d definitely support this. It’s still got that nice hill backdrop with the classic “Think Blue” in Chavez Ravine, I think it would in no way take away from the classic Dodgers Stadium feel. I love it.
That image is a poorly Photoshoped version of the Ballpark at Arlington (Texas) – cropped from LF to the homerun porch in RF with the Progressive Field (Cleveland) scoreboard dropped in dead center (not the ideal location) and the Chavez Ravine backdrop with more Photoshoped trees. Dab in some blue & Dodger logos and in the end, not creative at all. Very weak.
When I first saw this I thought the same thing, a mix between the Royals/Rangers…. It is disgusting!! Dodger Stadium is one of the most classic stadiums in baseball. That is what makes Dodger Stadium, Wrigley Field, and Fenway so appealing. They aren’t like these modern day amusement parks (Miami). My dad played here when it first opened and I have been coming to Dodger Stadium since I was born. It is truly an amazing ballpark. Yes, they can use some renovations. But not extreme ones like this. Keep the structure the same! Just add new bathrooms and other facilities. There is no reason that Dodger Stadium should undergo a facelift of this magnitude.
