Mark Ellis Activated, Andre Ethier To Disabled List, Todd Coffey Done For Season

Today the Dodgers activated Mark Ellis from the disabled list and placed Andre Ethier retroactive to June 28. Ethier will be eligible to return on July 13 the Dodgers first game back after the All Star break. Mark Ellis returns after seven weeks of being out after a freak leg injury. Ellis has played the last four games with Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He had four singles and three walks, and scored three runs.

It was also learned yesterday that Todd Coffey would be out for the rest of the season, as he will undergo Tommy John surgery. With that we have likely seen the last of Coffey in a Dodgers uniform, Coffey was signed for one year and option for next year that likely would not be picked up. Coffey hurt his arm Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds. He said he didn’t feel any pain and figured he would just need a few days rest, he was shocked to hear he needed season ending surgery. After the news was announced Coffey was surprisingly in a good mood, even joking around. ”Twelve years is a good run on Tommy John,” Coffey said. “If I get another 12 out of the next one, I’ll take that.” Coffey may have not been having that great of a season, but he does make a good entrance that will be missed. Here was a little something I was working on before he went down.
